Welcome one and all to Ask WoW Insider, where we publish your questions every week. Recently we took a look at the best healing and best dps classes, and this week we turn our attention to podcasts. Ben writes: Hi WOW Insider - I haven't seen anything on your site for a while about WoW podcasts. Do you guys listen to them? Which ones? I thought it would be interesting if you guys made a list of the most popular ones and described their format/style. Thanks! We've also been discussing this question recently on the It Came from the Blog (join us!) forums. I'm personally a fan of The Instance, and am hoping Taverncast makes a comeback. There are a ton of WoW-themed podcasts out there now -- which would you recommend? What are your favorites?
We know you've got questions -- don't keep them bottled inside! Send them to ask AT wowinsider DOT com.

Definitely BluePlz of WoWRadio.
Don't try out their lore keeper's show though, even if you love the lore. (I do so very much.) The hosts are quite incompetent hosts, meaning more than 50% of the show is dead air.

"The Instance" is my favorite. Good mix of news and fun.
On a side note, is there a good podcast that just discusses lore? Maybe like each week we get a short story from the game's background lore, be it info on a character, place, or event that occurred. I know WOW Chronicles started a segment on this, but I didn't hear more than 2 or so of them, and think it'd stand on its own as a weekly short 10 min podcast.

The Instance is a great show, The World of Warcast is good, very informative. Taverncast as a previous poster stated is hands down the best production value. They are usually hilarious to listen to as well. 1up's Legendary Thread is rarely on topic, but often funny. Not the same since The Scarab Lord left though, but still good.

Legendary Thread, from 1up.com. It's very good, although it's becoming more of a general MMO podcast than just WoW, but it still maintains the WoW talk as the primary focus.

The Instance is great because they keep it on topic, update on a regular basis, and keep it fairly family friendly (i.e. no swearing, adult off-topic, etc).
1UP's podcast is pretty good too. However lately it seems like a lot of them are quitting WoW or just don't have the zeal for it like in previous podcasts.

The Instance is probably one of the best I have ever listened to they have something that all of the other podcasts don't and sadly i can't put my finger on it. Also others that I listen to may give the same and maybe better info but I keep falling asleep to them lol. If you want quality podcasts with quality info and people that have a personality its The Instance for sure.

I am a long-time listener of The Instance which I really enjoy...however as much as I like the commentary and various segments I find that (especially more so in recent times) it lacks "real-world" application. I have not really learned anything or been excited by the shows content simply because it seems to be solely targeting the "casual gamer" crowd who is still concerned with how to level their characters from x-y. Can anyone recommend a podcast more geared towards the "hard-core" crowd, with a focus on in-game content, tips and info? Thanks!

I'm a big fan of the World of Warcast for useful WoW information. I also enjoy Analog Hole Gaming, which was mentioned above. While not a Warcraft only podcast they do spend quite a bit of time on the game.

The Instance is hands-down the awesomest podcast in all of podcasting. Okay, maybe that's going a bit too far, but I really really like it. If I'm listening to a podcast, I want to be entertained, and those guys are great at it.

Taverncast is hands-down the best.
The Instance is generally well-done, but the hosts are usually ill-informed. I constantly find myself correcting their factual and interpretive errors to the point where I have to turn it off. They also let too many little pre-pubescent kids submit segments, and it makes me embarrassed to be listening.
World of Warcast is good and mature, but the longer it goes on, the more arrogant and haughty the hosts get, so it's starting to turn me off too.
1up's Legendary Thread is entertaining and used to vie for top spot in my mind before Luke Smith left.
WoW Chron is ok.
TAVERNCAST COME BACK!!!

The Instance was my favorite and my first podcast (yes I'm late to the game) but when they started their megaguild, it seems like that was all they talked about. We got screwed over on our name, we added ### this week, whisper the cnet girl and call her jane, she hates it, etc etc. Anyway, kinda turned me off on them. Still listen occasionally but it is no longer Podcast #1 everyweek for me.
1up is great but as mentioned, not as funny since the scarab lord left.

WoW radio is in my eyes by far the best.
Love the IRC channel and the live shows.
I recommend MaxSpeed, Vendor Trash and Blue Plz :)

FriendlySoviet, you sure have a strange definition of 50%.
The Lorekeepers is the ONLY WoW lore podcast worth listening to, and its the only place I've ever found that even does service to any of the lore, let alone even talk about it in any seriousness.
Let's see you keep a podcast going for 2+ years, eh?

1up's Legendary Thread used to be moderately interesting, but now they never discuss anything other than, "Oh, my character is doing such and such!" It's hard to care, and the lack of real topics addressed coupled with the unwillingness to ever disagree with anyone else creates a dull atmosphere. This will only get worse as the podcast shifts focus to covering more MMOs, alienating the current user base and offering next to nothing for fans of said other MMOs.
