Caster has posted his "first successful pull" of an exhaustive list of arena PvP stats about class and spec over on the forums. There are tons of stats to play around with here-- for each bracket of 5v5, 3v3, and 2v2, he's got the average, minimum, and maximum of specs for each class, wins and losses, the low, average, and high of hit points, and even a breakdown of who's grouping with who.Not surprisingly (though I was surprised back when Arenas first started up), Warriors and Paladins are topping the charts in terms of numbers, so it seems a good way to win 5v5 Arenas is simply to stay alive. Apparently 2v2 teams are the most volatile (since people switch around with them all the time), but the numbers there are the most interesting-- Warlocks and Priests top the charts there (thanks a lot, Fear), and it turns out Druids might have actually have a place in Arena PvP-- as long as it's right alongside a Lock.
And the big loser is apparently Hunters-- their numbers are down to single digits in 2v2 and 3v3 (as in 1 and 2 total), which means players are not taking their Hunters into the arenas. Is that because Hunters aren't useful or viable enough in the smaller teams? I'll leave that one up to you.

I only arena for fun, and I highly disagree about hunters. Sure I am speced for raids and not pvp but from my experince hunters shoudl have it good if teamed with the right class. I go with a shadow priest. I scatter trap one guy, priest fears other. Burn the one down and turn to the other. Dosent always work out though. On adverage though its more then not.
Then again, I am super casual doing it. Just 10 games a week and try to maintain my 1500 score lol.

If only I didn't have such an innate dislike of hunters, I could feel some sympathy for their underrepresentation. But, being a Pally that took crap nonstop until BC, boo hoo.

Too small a sample size to be worth anything imo.

All hunters I know are farming bots. That could explain the lack of hunters.

I Agree with the "too small of a sample size" comment.
It's interesting to see, but I wouldn't base any decisions about who and what I take into an arena based on those stats.
For the science dorks out there: You need a larger N value.

Lock/Priest isn't uber just because of fear (though that certainly helps!), it's uber because resilience doesn't effect DoTs. It also has strong disruptive capabilities and burst damage, but so do a lot of other teams. The real reason that combo is so popular is that Blizz broke the game by allowing one type of damage to completely circumvent a stat that is on every single piece of PvP gear in large quantities, while that same stat limited everyone else's damage.
I guarantee you a fix is coming, Blizz is just testing it out before they announce it. Lock/Priest is the very definition of FotM, as it's popularity will drop precipitously when a flaw in the game's rules stops giving them a near-eploit level unfair advantage.

Wow, this is scarry. I must be one of the 2 hunters in 3v3.
And All I can say: You won't see me much in the arena. It's nearly impossible for me to be effective. Contrary to what other believe, once someone gets in to the dead zone, there are very few ways for me to get back to range(AoE slow or intimadte).
I simply try to buy time for my other teammates to take the opposition down. Definately have seen many players /spit on my corpse tho.

Hunters are viable in 3v3 it just depends on whos the hunter and if your teammates know how u play.
Did 3v3 with marksman hunter, resto shaman, moonkin druid (muah) / we are raid spec and other than the shaman actually having pvp gear on him the hunter and i only wear our tier raiding gear and we do fine
between his icetrap/my root and cyclone/ and the shamans earth shock we do a good job against most groups... except if we have to fight a 2ice mages,1 warlock combo just too much burst dmg for us to deal with >< and when we were about to kill mage we get hit with an iceblock
