Kayholder found a level 70 character on the Armory (hi, Subdural from Alexstraza) wearing all kinds of junk, and asks how the guy even got to level 50, much less 70. But the answer from another WoW LJer mentioned something I've never heard before either: "logout clothes."No way. I know players were concerned about being spied on in the Armory when it first came out, but are you guys really putting on a logout set before you exit the game? This guy's a shadow priest, but he doesn't have any arena ratings that I can see, and he's Exalted with the AV faction (not that hard), and only Honored with the other two, so who is he hiding his gear from? Does he not want Magtheridon scouring the Armory to see who's coming to get him this weekend?
Seriously, do you guys really do this? Is it that important to hide your gear that you have to carry around a completely separate set to put on every time you log out? And even if you do, can't people see your set while you're wearing it? All they'd have to do, I'd think, is wait for you to log on, and then check the Amory to see what you were wearing (or heck, just go find you in game). Do any of you really use "logout clothes"? And for the love of Thrall, why?

Some people have 'city clothes' which in turn can also be logout clothes. I know on RP servers people tend to wear specific clothes for 'looks' when they wander the town and such, and may just end up logging off in them.
But, yes, I have heard of 'log out clothes' before, paranoid people.

I tend to run around in clothes i happen to like the look of whenever I'm in a city - and usually that's where I am when I log out.
And yeah i can kinda get people changing clothes for that f*cking armory. I'm a big privacy freak and imo it's noone else's business what gear I do or do not have. I really really want an option to hide it from say, everyone but guildies. I know it's not likely people will "spy" on me but... It's like I wouldn't want a camera from the government in my room to check for illegal activities (no, I'm not quite that paranoid, but work with me here ^^) even though I'd know it's very unlikely anyone would ever think i'm doing whatever criminal thing and would therefore wanna watch it. It's kind of the principle of it.

I -do- sometimes put on my healing set before logging out to allow me to use the armory to look for upgrades to it (the armory assumes that you want more of whatever stats you already have a lot of, a generally reasonable assumption; if I log out in my soloing gear, it recommends spell damage gear.) I've never heard of this, though. I suspect that he may be doing it for amusement as much as anything else, though I can't imagine carrying around extra gear just for that.

No reason for logout clothes...just take all your clothes off. Maybe the stuff looks pretty? Maybe addons like al-wardrobe require you to put an articles to replace one, instead of letting it be blank

Not that it really *matters* but I always summon my imp before logging out and make sure I have Fel Armor up too, since you can also check stats (stamina, spell power, etc).
And yes, I browse other people to see their stats - usually just guildies though.

My theory on the numbers of people who look at the armory, pulled directly from my "nether space":
Out of 8.5 million people, 1 person wants to stalk you, 100 people are looking up to you for advice because they think you're good, 10 people think you did a crappy job in an instance, and the rest DON'T CARE.

On the thing about just checking while they're logged in: Armory is based on whatever you have when you log out, this means someone from the number one arena team and raiding guild on the server could get naked and dump their talents before logging and anyone who happened to glance at their profile may just suspect keyloggers.
As for why, well isn't it obvious? Fun. Whenever people ask me why I keep casting rank one faerie fire on the giant behind me, or why I'm drowning myself in lava I have to wonder if they've forgotten games should equal fun. Now this could yield some WTF's and with less loss to self, so anyone who's kited all the giants in Uldum to Gad will surely enjoy this.

Uh, well, I know you all are into your PVE monster killing and whatnot, but there are some people on servers called "role players" and may be wearing something for that purpose in town or whatever. Armory is neato, but you kinda are a moron if you want to make assumptions about a person based on that alone.

BTW, the guy/girl probably does it just because of situations like this. Some guy randomly scouring the armory finds you. I suppose if I wanted to make a statement about the armory I might just do this. Of course, I mainly only check the armory when I'm looking at my OWN toons -- or getting involved in a PUG. Let's face it, if I'm invited to a pug and according to the armory the tank has The Stoppable Force [http://www.wowhead.com/?item=25402] equipped, I'm declining.

On my level 70 rogue I like to wear my level 0 robes that you can get from the starting areas and hang out in Lower City with the homeless people emoting and drinking.
I think I've logged out a couple times like that. Maybe some people like the writer of this article think I'm snubbing him for some reason but really I am just having fun joking about.

Can it really be considered "paranoia" if we're discussing his clothing?
Sounds to me like he's just careful!

I've farmed all my gear from kara and heroics, but I'm not in a guild thats in gruuls yet... so... yea, I collected my entire deteriorating plate set set...
I like to wear it when I'm running a low-level guildie through normal ramparts.
I wear it in town to get quizzikle looks... and yea. Occaisionally I'll still be wearing it when I logout.

Ok - I understand the RP aspect of it - personally, I've made a full set of black mageweave before just cause it looks so damn cool. However, explain to me the pieces of gear that aren't visible...pants under a robe, bracers under certain gloves, neck, rings, etc. They're just as WTF as the rest of this guy's gear and yet there's no RP value to them at all.

FWIW, I've posted occasionally on the Blizzard official forums. When hostile people there want to argue with you, one of their tactics is to belittle your armor and weapons. You ain't l33t enough to know what you're talking about.
Recipients of this treatment may well resort to using logout clothes. Myself, I try to log out wearing my Lovely Red Dress from the Valentine's Day quests:
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=22276
and wielding The Stoppable Force:

I have my "pimp" hat that I wear when in the city... But as a solo player that doesn't group much - my gear does suck... And I know it. Terenas-H Sorzroa of Planet Express. Let me know how bad I suck...
