I also use the term "grinding wife rep" to let guildies know that I need to spend some time with the lady of the house.

I like the term aggro for out of game things, but I understand entirely where you're coming from.

That said, I've never understood why one would get married to someone who had that much trouble with their hobbies. Of course, if I say "Wife Aggro", it usually means that my wife's rogue has done too much damage, and pulled aggro away from my pet:p

From what I've noticed from others is that 'wife or gf aggro' isn't ment to mean that the significant other is mad at them (although that doesn't happen from time to time), but that the significant other want that person to do something for them, so the "aggro" is to go take care of that something.

Being a more versed EQ player, wife faction was a frequently cited reason to log, afk, etc.

A guildie is a PuG said in guild chat a few moths ago:

"Wow, our tank just dropped group because he said his mom was making him clean his room - I'm so glad to be in a more mature guild where we don't have issues like that."

To which I replied:

"Yeah, in our guild, it's more like 'sorry guys, I gotta log, my wife's making me clean my room.'"

Though I would say that wife rep is bunk, it's much more similar to the old honor grind. No matter how much you grind, next week you're gonna hafta regrind it all over and then some, or you'll lose rank fast.

Quit focusing on the negative side of wife aggro. You also have to take into account the more... how shall we say... colorful meanings of the term "wife aggro". ;-D

My guild has a lot of couples, so it's a term we don't see that often. When we do, it's meant as a "haha" kind of thing, not a "zomg, my wife hates me and won't let me play games all night" thing. My best friend and I got into the game together. It's something we can still do together despite being hundreds of miles apart. His wife is not a gamer (text-twist, insaniquarium, donkey konga is about her style) but she totally supports him in his habits. He uses the term "wife aggro" just to refer to any time she wants him away from the game. If she's not home, sometimes he'll clean the kitchen or something to gain rep which will allow him more gametime, etc. etc. It's all very tongue-in-cheek.

What it boils down to is it's more fun to say "BRB wife aggro" than "Hey guys, I'll be back in a few. My wife just got home from a long day and would like me to spend 5 minutes being nice to her." or something along those lines. Everyone's different, each guild is different, ymmv.

Yeah, agree with #4.

Fact is there are a number of wives/girlfriends who may not enjoy their fact that their husbands/boyfriends play WoW in general or are playing at that particular time.

Just because you are a woman and not one of them doesn't mean they might not exist.

And I don't know about you, but I've turned a phrase or two in my day as well. It's entirely innocent, and unless the person starts making rude comments about their significant other, I think you should let it stand at that.

Amanda Rivera, no offense, but you are reading WAY too much into the term "wife aggro"... I don't know if you have a husband or boyfriend, but does he have issues with you playing WoW all the time? If so, feel free to call that "husband aggro" any time you have to log out due to him harassing you to get off the computer...

I've heard much worse terms for kids, work, etc all pulling people away from the game.

I'm a woman gamer as well but I don't really take exception to the phrase. There are times when I want to get my partner off the computer and vice versa. We don't use that phrase but it's not such a big deal if someone else does.

As a funny story though one time we were raiding BWL and our internet cut out right before a boss attempt. It didn't come back on until the next day so I wrote a note of apology to the guild and their response was "you two must have aggroed each other."

Well I use it. Its not that my wife hates me playing the game, but there are times when she needs me to do something, or spend time with her. That's what I refer to as wife aggro. I also use Spawn Aggro, Dog Aggro, etc...

If my kid didn't get his chores done before MC he'd type "AFK Mom aggro" (and yes, I was a snarling monster!) and put someone on follow. That was a long time ago... now we both incur hubby/dad aggro most of the time. ^.~ but our resists are improving.

for me it's more mom agro, and chores agro. also sometimes when I say girlfriend agro, i dont mean she going crazy about me playing, its just that im being pulled away from the game because of her. when it comes to girlfriend agro its cus she needs something or want to watcha movie, or calls me on the phone...not necesarily meaning shes pissed off at me playing wow

Aggro = Wife/Dog/Kids has been made aware of your presence, they need some attention.

NOT Aggro = My wife (Illidan) thinks the house (Black Temple) needs cleaning, and you must help (Illidan must die!).

I don't understand the issue. Wife Aggro = My wife is pissed that I am playing WoW again and wants me off ASAP... or something bad will happpen to my pc. It doesn't make a difference if you are a female gamer. If you husband is the same way, simply say Husband Aggro.... whats so hard about that?

I'm in the same boat as most of the above - it's your own admitted oversensitivity. My wife plays WoW (we share the account) but there are times when she needs me to hop off to do some work or something. Thus, wife aggro. And it's happened the other way too (husband aggro). Since I'm in an adults-only guild, spouse aggro/rep grind/cat aggro/dog aggro is a pretty regular thing to see when someone goes AFK.

If you pull wife aggro just blind, backstab, vanish, sinister strike, kidney punch and sprint.
