As you may have heard by now, the faction rep grind for the Netherwing epic mount will require players to complete "Daily" quests-- that is, short collecting quests that can be done only once per day. When players first heard about that, a lot of them felt the same way that Oddig of Skullcrusher did-- they saw the time limits on the quests as just another way Blizzard was trying to turn WoW into a timesink, in order to make spend more time playing less game.Which is not exactly wrong, if you're a hardcore player who usually grinds rep for hours every day. But as Drysc says, the Daily quests are meant for players who don't have a lot of time to invest all at once. They're meant "to provide greater reward for smaller investments of time." Basically, this is their answer to giving the casual players their own content. Just like rested XP (which is a great idea that rewards you for not rushing through content), the rewards at the end of these "Daily" grinds can't be rushed to by hardcore players who play in huge chunks of time.
When you put it that way, I'm all for it. Hardcore players still won't be happy, but it's there's plenty for them to grind away already-- if you guys have already grinded every single reputation in the game so far that these daily quests are the only ones you have to do, then try playing another game for a bit (I've been liking Titan Quest a lot lately). Some players argue that the casual players expected to do these quests probably won't have the 5,000g needed for the epic riding skill to even start them, to which I say-- err, good point.
Of course the other note here is that, as players have noticed on the PTR, the quests seem to reset every time the server restarts. So if you're really hankering to get to that mount quickly, you don't really have to wait for every day-- hotfixes and restarts can give you a few more quests to do every week.

Let me get this straight... the 'hardcore' players simply have to figure out how to crash the server to get multiple runs a day?
Anybody else see that as a problem?

I think its a great idea. I am not a hardcore player, but the time I have I like to think I use efficiently, I only play for an hour or two a day during the week, and only a little more than that on weekends. I already have my epic flying mount (I had to borrow some of the gold from a guild mate, but I am close to paying him back after only two weeks) now I see quest lines that are aimed at me and my style of play.. I think this is great.

It's still retarded you need to have the 300 riding skill to even start the questline - why not let people start and finish it up, and buy the mount afterwards. It would've been nice to do all the quests while earning money in the process and knock off two birds with one stone, but it's just yet another time sink, AKA how Blizz makes money

As someone who tries to play 3-4 hours a day (but winds up playing 6-8!) I like to solo a lot. I like to kill a lot, but I like there to be a point to it. I don't want to kill mobs just for getting gold. I want rep, or xp, or....some kind of goal to be working toward. I love to kill Ogres in Nagrand, because I can reach three goals at once! (Kurenai rep, bead drops for consortium rep, and crystal powder drops for Halaa research tokens.)
Now if there were just some more people on my server so that we could do some instances....

@1, it could simply be a PTR issue, or something by design on the PTR.
Of course, since the date doesn't change when the PTR goes down...Iwouldn't worry about it when the patch goes live by mid-May.

@6 Very true about the 300 skill required, but as the patch isn't live yet we may hope for a change of that. If there is enough feedback this could be changed to maybe "must be level 70", that should be easily done by the devs.
Another point about the daily quests is that it might be easier to farm for them if you only need X of a certain item per day. Once you have them, you go on to something else and don't stick around to farm more stuff.

Not having seen the quests yet, I foresee a HUGE issue...Lets say that you need to kill X number of Y creatures at some location...Every player on the server trying to grind rep will need to be there for the rep grind. Not a good thing for Warriors, Paladins, and any other Non-Range/Whack-Attackers. Tagging mobs is hard enough when grinding Primal Elements at Elemental Platue...and you need a flying mount just to get there...

Listen if you farm for 7 hours at once, or 1 hour every day for one week you put in the same time and came out with the same reward, this limit does not change that. The limit accomplishes nothing but actually forcing a casual to become more "hardcore" because now they have to log on each day, instead of say a few hours one day and none the next.
Let players decide when they want to grind, not some stupid time sink.

The only way I see this as Blizz taking peoples money is if you had planned to quit as soon as you hit 70 and got your mount and by making it take you longer to get there you are paying for more months, but how many of us are actually planning to quit any time soon? ;)

Dont take the opinion of a few hardcore players as doctrine from what the rest of us think. Personally I think this is a small group of people who can't possibly cry enough.

It would make more sense and ease up on the QQ of the hardcorers (because we know this game has nothing for them at all )if they increased the number of times you could do the daily quest and then cap it.
Allowing you to do the daily quest say like 3 or 5 times a day, allows the hardcore people to plow through it and then allows the casual player to come in and do it once or twice every couple days.
Even better would be X number of times per week that way Bliz can ration out how fast people get rep.

I don't think this is a "level the playing field for the casual" thing as much as I think Blizzard would like to limit the number of people in the area. Everyone and their brother isn't going to be over there for hours on end farming the same stuff to see who's first with a drake. We all remember those first days in Hellfire after TBC was released.
Of course, only so many can do these quests since you have to have 300 riding, but I'm betting the majority of those who do will be making a b-line for Netherwing Ledge on day one and it will still get quite crowded. If you can only do it once a day, you'll do your quest and move and let someone else farm and it will be less of a bottleneck.

seriously, i've done a lot of rep grinding (29 exalteds atm -- mostly on a holy paladin...) and i love this idea. it suits my preference of doing a moderate amount of farming each day rather well.
