One of the most interesting aspects of the WoW TCG (trading card game) has been the in-game tie-ins. The best-known example is probably the ever-popular turtle mount, which is only attainable via a scratch-off-to-reveal code that can be found on rare cards. There is also apparently a hippogryph pet and a couple of tabards (flame, frost), though I haven't personally seen either. So it comes as no surprise that the expansion to the TCG, Through the Dark Portal, will feature more of these loot-for-cards promotions. As announced on Upper Deck's page, here's what you can get:- Picnic Blanket. When used, summons a nice picnic setup, complete with umbrella and grill. Anyone around can right-click the grill to get "Grilled Picnic Treat," a BoP food that gives a buff reading "Does nothing. Tastes great!" Hopefully this blanket is reusable, since it looks pretty neat when used (see pic).
- A pet monkey named Bananas. Come on, it's a pet monkey! Like Upper Deck says, who doesn't want a pet monkey? Very cute.
- Finally, there will be a "fortune-telling device." Click it and an imp appears and whispers an answer to you (allegedly to the entire party, in a future patch, though I think that would get old fast). Upperdeck says it's similar to "a certain toy you may have had as a child." This would definitely help make some decisions a bit easier.
[thanks, Dave!]

I play the TCG, mainly with my gf, which is how I got her into WoW mua-hah-hah. I think it is a great game, very easy to learn and Upperdeck and Bliz have such great support behind it. I ride around on my turtle, with my Hyp pet and tabard for fun, get lots of attention for it. Most people are "ZOMG HOW U GET TURTLE?!?!1?!?" or "You spend to much money on cards" lol. Will be glad to get some new in game things pet/items. Not to thrilled about these new ones but the game is popular, more and more sets will have better things.

I have both frost and flame tabards. Being a mage, I can swap whichever tabard reflects my current talent build.

Coil: yeah, we saw the date too. But UDE had a different April Fool's prank, which has since been pulled down, so we're hoping this is for reals. I'm not sure what's up with those pineapples on the bottom of the umbrella though.

The monkey doesn't really look like it fits in with the WoW style imo, same with the umbrella.

A friend of mine went to one of the tournament events and reported back with that stuff, it's legit.
I'm a fire mage and I have a friend who's a frost mage, and we like to have complimentary red and blue outfits, so we have the Tabard of Flame and Tabard of Frost respectively. :)
I only have one local friend who plays CCGs, and he's way too good, so I bought the cards but didn't actually play the game until my boyfriend/tank came to visit. It was certainly a fun way to spend an afternoon.
