Now that the Armory is finally up and working (it was crushed by requests when it was first posted), I've had a chance to look at it, and I have to say, I think it's the coolest thing I've ever seen on an MMO's website ever. The Camelot Herald was cool (for those of you who know about that), but, privacy issues aside, the Armory is going to become a terrific tool for players, guilds, Alliance and Horde all over the world.Already, it's showing us things about the game that we'd never known otherwise. There are apparently 22 pages of Legolas toons, although Leroyjenkins doesn't have the showing I'd have thought (50 entries, none of which are above 60 as of this writing). Maybe he wipes too much. While there are tons and tons of "alliance" guilds, there's only a few for "horde." Death and Taxes either has 20 chapters, or 19 wannabes-- Nihilum doesn't have any. And while arena teams are fairly new, lots of people didn't get too creative with them-- there's 165 teams with "arena" in the name. I tried to see if our friend Juffowup, the naked troll hunter, was still naked, but he hasn't been on a while. Antitweak, the naked druid, is only 20, but she is-- yup, still naked.
And there's lots of cool personal stuff in here, too. My shaman, Shamanic, shares a name with lots of people, but from what I can see, he's number one (the one from Thunderhorn) on the list-- confirming what I already knew, ahem. And I think it's particularly cool that on every character screen, they even show, in the right corner, the buffs you have on the character at the time. Now that's real-time! Unfortunately, they also show your professions, so everyone in the world can see that I've been slacking off. But overall, I love the Armory. You guys seen anything funny or cool in there yet?

I love the Armory even though it makes my guild roster on my guilds webpage a bit obsolete i suppose.

I'd imagine there are a lot of Lord of the Rings names in Azeroth. I saw a dwarf named Ghimly last night, before he was slaughtered trying to raid Tarren Mill.

I've used the Armory to check a couple notorious gankers gear and spec's. Now I know much better what they're doing, and how to counter it.
Great tool for espionage on the enemy and counter-gearing.

I've been using the site www.rpgoutfitter.com to post my character profile for my guildies to see for quite some time now. I still like it better because it can show what recipes I do know, and if you click on those recipes it can tell you what my character and alts (if you set it up so anyone can see your alts) have that is used in the recipe. I still think the innovation is great but it leaves me craving more.

This is a big improvement over the attempts made by a number of sites to create profile scrapers.
Overall I like it, although, it would be nice if guilds showed who was on the charter and the leader.

It's nice to be able to show people your gear and stuff without logging in. The Camelot Herald wasn't quite as robust as the Armory; when I played it was primarily was used to show how many realm points people had gotten and who were the top crafters.

It's a nice feature, but it seems to be a little buggy. It tells me that priest main hasn't been active for a while, so I can't see his stats. What odd sort of precedent is being set when a toon played less than 16 hours ago isn't an "active" character?

The tool is a lot of fun. Perhaps I'll do some name analysis using it to find the most popular name. Could even create a tool to find a name not currently used on any servers. A way to comment on people would be awesome. Sort of like an eBay reputation combined with MySpace comments.

22 pages of Legolas toons? Would it have killed them to be a little more creative in creating a name? I mean, c'mon, after the first few attempts of 'Legolasx' or 'Legolass', it's time to think of something else.

Yay!
Turns out I am the only Skraptacular in the world!
I used to be Kraptacular but the GM nailed me for crude refrences to bodily functions.

Also remember that there can be many Legolas' with identical names across different realms.
Still, wouldn't hurt to be a little more creative with your character name.

FYI you used the armory in the wrong way to look up nihilum, you forgot they are on EU servers. so I think this is the correct search

Just like any other profiler, you can't count on it being 100% indicative of gear. Any hybrid class will attest to that. Take a druid for example; To be effective in any given situation it almost requires 3 sets.
Don't let the Armory mislead you! That being said, the gear I have on my main is indeed my only gear. It's sad, but true. Try not to laugh.

I'm quite pleased-- I have a unique character name! (Guess not many folks spell a form of rust with a trollish accent for their char's name....)

Maybe this was already explained, but can anyone tell me what a person can gleam from looking at an opposing players profile? Spec? Definitely. Maximum health and mana? Sure. Damage and crit change? Ok. But what can you gain from these that you could use against the person? To my understanding, WoW characters don't really have any unknown weaknesses. Every class has pros and cons, but they're pretty well known. And a players spec should be obvious just by watching them play. If there was gear out there with attributes like "+x stat A, -y stat B" (which I think would be fun) I could understand, but I haven't seen anything like that yet. So yeah, can anyone could explain how this works? If you can, a link to an actual profile showing how it could be "counter-geared" would be interesting too. Thanks.

No real advantage to seeing enemy intel I think. Like you'd go in a BG, then proceed to look up the gear of every enemy player in it? The BG would be over well before then. This thing seems to be mostly for fun.
@8/Jason McLeod
I think it does show guilds, and the guild leaders. I've seen it for several guilds, showing the founder/leader.
For a Beta, this thing is pretty solid. I like it. Lots of potential. I'd love to see a next step of stuff like this, showing extra stats, like what zones are most frequented by players, either for the entire game, or even down to individual players.
