Leatherworkers who've hit 350 have been doing some brisk business making and selling the Riding Crop, a new trinket that increases mount speed by a whopping 10%. The previous +mount speed items combined (Mithril Spurs, made by Blacksmiths and attached to boots, the Carrot trinket from a ZF quest, and a glove enchant), added up to only 9%, and some players were excited that with the crop included, they'd see a full 19% speed bonus. Not so, says Drysc. By decree of the devs, the biggest mount speed bonus items can grant will be 10%, which means the Riding Crop does not stack with any other items (keep that in mind before you spend a ton of gold on it). It's meant, says Drysc, as a space and time saver more than anything else-- don't carry around three items when you can carry around one.
Of course, as alert players point out, there are class speed buffs that will stack with Riding Crop-- Crusader Aura is one for Pallies, and I'm sure commenters to this post could come up with more (I thought that Aspect of the Pack would, except that AotP doesn't stack with mounts at all, so of course it doesn't stack with the Riding Crop). There are probably even those among you who wonder why any more than a 10% buff even matters for getting from place to place, but for some players (especially those in battlegrounds), every second spent on a mount counts.

While exciting to know you only need one item to get the max out of your mount, it is kind of lame as this effictivly corners the market for leatherworkers. No more need for enchanters/blacksmiths when leatherworkers can do it better.

Ok so I'm at leatherworking 300 right now, how hard is it to get up to 350 or 375?

My heart sank as I read this...I've been trying to farm the riding skill enchant for over a week now...it's a 1/1000 drop from Solid Chests...opened hundreds of them by now...depression setting in.....
I hope beyond hopes that they will reverse their position and allow the crop to stack with others.
I agree it is a bit unfair to give Leatherworkers the corner in riding skill buffs.
Now the only reason to ever run ZF is gone forever.
I'm gonna go QQ some more now....

350 - hard enough. especially since so many drops are just knothide scraps.
375 - really fricken hard. you'll need rep based or drop recipes and it will take lots hard to find mats.
Just my opinion, but it seems as if Blizz has intentionally (and rightfully) ratcheted up the difficulty level in maxing out crafting professions. I'm OK with this, but it seems a lot of people expected it to be like the grinding up to 300 - just a few hundred gold and based on trained/vendor recipes. It'll make getting there all the more worth it.

#1, good I've been losing money as a leatherworker. I know it's hard for an enchanter to get to the high levels but why should they make all the money.

My advice is that people should keep their carrot in their bank just in case Blizz changes their mind on this.

My understanding was that Riding speed bonuses stack multiplicatively.
So if you have the 3% from Carrot, the 2% from the spurs, and the 3% from the Riding Enchant, those stack up multiplicatively to give an 18.5% extra speed bonus, so with an epic mount, that's 218.5% normal movement speed.
Drysc's post is carefully worded. The way he's written it, it means that on-foot travel (100% normal) cannot be buffed beyond 110%, because 10% of 100% is... well... 10%. But epic mount travel (200% normal) cannot be buffed beyond 220%, beacuse 10% of 200% is 20%.
So, if you equip the riding crop with an epic mount, you gain mount speed by 200% plus 10% of that speed, for a grand total of 220% movement speed, which is 1.5% better than using the other three combined and effectively eliminates two bag slots.

Apologies in advance for the double-comment, but here's the calculation for epic mount with spurs, enchant, and carrot:
100% Normal Speed + 100% Epic bonus = 200%
200% Speed + 4% Spurs bonus = 208%
(because 4% of 200% is 8%)
208% + 3% Carrot bonus = 214.24%
(because 3% of 208% is 6.24%)
214.24% + 2% Enchant bonus = 218.5248%
(because 3% of 214.24% is 4.2848%)
The nice thing about percentages like that is... no matter what order you apply the math in, the result is always the same.

Finnicks, you're wrong.
100% Normal Speed + 100% Epic bonus = 200%
200% Speed + 4% Spurs bonus = 204%
204% + 3% Carrot bonus = 207%
207% + 2% Enchant bonus = 209%
Is how it is calculated. It is just a straight percent addition, not multiplied then added.
200% Speed + 20% Crusader Aura = 220% not 240%.
Because epic mounts go 380% iirc, so with the pally aura they'll go 400%, not 456%

Is the Recipie for the "Riding Crop" a drop (off whom and or where) or purchaseable/vendor trained (off whom and or where)?

Actually, Mordiceius, according to the folks over at WoWWiki, the fact that speed increasing items stack multiplicatively was experimentally confirmed using position tracking addons.
It is also known that item-based mount speed buffs do not stack with ability or talent based mount buffs, like the Paladin and Hunter talents and the Crusader Aura. In that case, the faster of the two takes precendence.
Drysc's post explicity refers only to item-based speed increases and thus does not apply to talent or abilit based speed increases.
Whether or not talent and ability-based speed increases stack multiplicatively I do not know, but item-based speed increases DO stack multiplicatively.
I do not honestly know if Crusader Aura is applied in the same fashion, but I do know that the speed-limit announced by Drysc only applies to item-based speed increases and thus, if Crusader buffs you to 240% movement, and your Riding Crop buffs you to 220%, then the Crusader will take precedence and you'll be buffed to 240%.
Although if Crusader does not apply in that fashion, then you will receive a straight 20% bonus and the difference between Riding Crop and Crusader Aura doesn't matter. You'll get 220% anyway.

I'm the guy who wrote the section of WoWwiki that explains the mount speed bonuses that Finnicks referred to, and I can assure you that it IS multiplicative. I use a mod called TitanSpeed to measure, and it's always at 218% when I have all three items (carrot, spur boots, enchanted gloves) equipped.

Apparently you meant the skill Animal Handler for hunters. Two points get you an 8% increased speed. And that does stack with mounts and is a passive ability.

Enchanters, wipe away your tears. Many people will still want riding enchants on their gloves for between level 40 and 69 when they can use the Riding Crop. Expect sales to continue as they have. I know I'm not about to go slower for 29 levels to save a few gold. ;)

The Plans for the Riging crop are Bought from a ventor walking the path outside Southshore, in the first caverns of time instance. So no mob grinds or repeated instances trying to get it. You simply need to be lvl 66 to go get it.
Note: because the actual 'instance' part of the first CoT area is Durnholde Keep, you don't even need a group, just walk in & you come out of the Yeti Cave Next to Tarren mill, simply walk south to Southshore along the path.

So, what would be the Optimal riding set combination?
Is the +mount speed even worth it for pally's because the aura and Pursuit of Justice???

I can make this and there is no stacking/% multiplication of the riding crop
It is simply +10% speed making normal epic riding mount 110% normal mount 70% and epic flying mount 390%.
I've been told that it dosen't stack with the pally aura anymore but as of yet i have not been able to test this.
