When I first looked at this thread in the forums, my reaction was "QQ." But the more I think about it, the more reasonable it seems. The poster asks for an upgradable backpack, since bags larger than 14 slots are becoming the norm. I've definitely had trouble selling Netherweave Bags, since almost everybody seems to already have 16-slotters. In a world like that, the backpack becomes your smallest bag, and that doesn't make a lot of sense. Furthermore, anything that increases the amount I can carry, without me having to spend 90g each on Imbued Netherweave Bags, would certainly be welcome. Between a full set of extra gear (for healing), various consumables, quest items, rep pickups, herbs, etc., I don't usually have very much free space -- and that's even with having an AH alt that I mail everything off to once it's ready to be sold. Vendors have been pretty easy to come by, but still, I'd really appreciate an extra 4 slots, like the poster proposes.Unfortunately, Drysc pours a little rain on that parade:
- Allowing the backpack to be upgraded or otherwise just increased is always a possibility, but not something we're planning to do just yet. We need to take into account physical storage space on the realms for each character, and an increase of the default backpack size could definitely have a profound impact. Just like we've increased bank storage and bank bag slots we're certainly keeping the backpack in mind for possibilities of future storage increases.

I too have a bank alt that I send items that are ready for the AH, but I also send him everything that isn't soulbound that I may need in the near future but not at the moment.
When you first send him the items that you would eventually like back it takes a bit of time, but if and when you do require the items back, just log on to your alt and hit return - it is sent back to you instantly no waiting!!!

Yep, bag space is an issue. On my druid, when we were raiding AQ and Naxx, I had enough resist gear plus multiple healer/feral sets to fill 3 bags. Two of which were 18slotters already. My other two bags got filled with consumables. It was insane.
Now that I'm not raiding and just trying to level, I have nearly 2 bags (16 + 18) full of gear, one 18slot bag full of consumables, and the last two are for quest items, loot, etc.
It sure would be nice to get my main backpack upgraded, thats for sure. :P
Oh, and I make good use of bank alt/mule characters. I think I'm up to 4 or 5 now... or is that 6? hmmm. I'm a packrat. ;)

I can see it both ways. on one hand, 16 slots just isn't enough these days. on the other, the physical storage space of the server's hard drives would possibly need to be upgraded to accommodate the increase in storing all of the extra items for EVERY character.

Well with the money Blizz is making from game sales and subscription sales not to mention merch that they are saling they can afford to upgrade server storage and make the packs replaceable or upgradeable! Do the make 8 million subscriptions x $15 per month. That is $120 million a month just on subscriptions that Blizz is making, and they can't afford to upgrade?

I would like to see something like in D&D a floating disk that mages can conjure. Which could carry lots of stuff for the duration of the spell. But if the duration ends and you have stuff on it, you then lose the stuff.
Or Warlocks could use VW to carry a sack for them.

Well who doesn't want more and more bag space? Increasing the bag space, increases your bank space, and I can see where that would create extra server load... Still... it's a small price... It'd be nice to have different paged inventory tabs for gear (I heard Vanguard implemented this) that doesn't go against your bag space... Also a Feral Druid, it gets annoying carrying 3 sets, plus my Skinning gloves/Finkle's... if I could just hit a button to equip a tabbed inventory (much like Itemrack), it'd be sweet... Who needs 18 slot bags at that point?

Even as a level 25, I still feel the need for more space... although I do tend to keep items laying around that I don't need atall ^_^.

Most people have 1 or 2 Mules.. So whats the difference on space? Would they rather everyone have 2 maybe even 3 mules. or just increase the bag space. I guess either way you look at it its a double edge sword. but im with everyone else it needs to be dealt with.

Or how about a summonable "pet" - some little Goblin that you "hire" and he carries all your stuff - only thing is you have to pay him per week, and sometimes your stuff goes missing.

I had heard that there were various 18-20 slot bags which could be obtained in TBC. Can anyone list them and where they can be found? 90g is sure cheaper than the 200-300 that Bottomless Bags were going for.

Here is the difference between a pack mule and beging able to carry more. The server has to be able to handle to extra data of the additional items you carry at once when bigger bags are used.
You can have 12 pack mules and the server still only has to manage active data for one character at a time.
I am a druid I would love to see more bag space. I have 20 slots open when I am loaded with comsumables gears. 20 slots is not that much for quest and pickups. But I would not trade lag in cities in exchange for me being able to carry 4 more slots.
Think about it this way. when you go to a major city with a lot of people in it. the server is contantly processing everyones information while they are walking through that area. this includes the 4 extra pieces of crap you have in your bag. times that by 250 people in one area. Now it is keeping track of an extra 1000 pieces of inventory. That is quite a bit of aadditional work for it to do.
I am not opposed to it but it will not be a quick fix for blizzard to do by anymeans.

I have always used alts to carry things because keeping stuff in the mail system is dangerous when things sit too long. Having a tailor as my main helps equip everyone with runecloth bags.

Dude, this gets old. Yes, they are taking in a buttload of money, although as I understand it about half of WoW players are in Asia (China has 3.5 million) and they don't pay subscription fees instead they buy game time. So your 8 million times $15 a month isn't quite sound.
Regardless, WoW isn't run by faeries and pixie dust. Servers, bandwidth, electricity, staff, development, and property all take money. As far as I know Blizzard is a privately held company and so nobody knows how much profit they are making after expenses, but I'm sure it takes major funds to run a game for 8 million people worldwide.
So enough with the "they make a billion dollars a year argument."
ON TOPIC: Sure it be great to have more bag space, but 4 more spaces isn't gonna make me do my super-happy-dance.

ok, the people talking about omg additional strain on the server.
I had 14 slotters, and I just replaced them with all 18s.
The server did not buckle. I think they can handle making the first bag replaceable, or make it grow in size like the key ring does already.
We're not talking 100 terabytes of data here guys. I bet it would be more of a strain on the system to make a second bank character, than to just increase bag sizes.

I'll just take some packs for my freakin pet. You may be wanting 4 more spots, but I want a whole extra bag that I am short.
How about packs for your mount? They are only accessible while mounted. This way you can store up extra sets of armor, or something else, without having them accessible all the time.

I do like the idea that some posters responded with in the WoW forums thread -- make the bag grow ala keyring. 16 slots for 1-60, 18 slots for 61-65, 20 slots for 66+.
it's not huge, but at least it means that we won't have a ton of new packmules with 20 slotters running around.
