Have you checked out the ongoing BC World Event yet? I've heard things are happening all over Azeroth. but so far the big draw is right down where Blizzard said it wouldn't be, in the Blasted Lands. Down there at the Dark Portal, there's a questgiver who gives you a really, really simple quest-- all you have to do is take out 6 of the felguards coming out of the portal, and the reward is a neat "limited edition" Tabard of the Protector-- it's black, which is cool, but it's also got a fun little proc that makes you flex and give off the priest AOE animation. Not bad for just a few minutes' work.
Unfortunately, there's a lot of QQing already-- apparently the Dark Portal area is packed with people on most realms, and especially on PVP realms, there's plenty of PVP happening. I'm on a PVE realm, and yet a few hordie buds of mine and I couldn't keep from killing flagged Alliance-- we cleared that place out, and it felt awesome to be fighting them in among all the Argent Dawn and Burning Crusade NPCs running around. There's a few different mobs that are flowing out of the portal-- felguards and voidwalkers, and also a few mini core hounds, and every once in a while, a 63 elite Dreadknight shows up with an AOE Shadowbolt, but he gets cut down to size pretty quick even with just the AD troops fighting.
But it's definitely a sight to see. There's no telling how long this will all be going on (I'd guess the mini-war itself is a permanent fixture, but the tabard might be gone within a week or two), so even if you have to go later at night when it's not so darned crowded, make sure you check it out.
A few more pics I took after the jump.

I got the tabard yesterday. Got help from one of the mages in the guild, he was sitting there all day just AOEing everything that came out of the portal. I'm a hunter, and I couldn't grab anything before it got tapped.

I have a hint for any of you low lvl 50's out there that can't hit the mobs comin out of the portal. All you need to do is to tag the creep and back off of it and let other ppl kill it. Wether its AD NCPs or other players u will get credit for it. Easiest way i found to complete the quest if not lvl 60.

For all those folks going nuts about the crowds, just go at off peak hours.
I went at 5:30 this morning. Lots of demons and AD npcs fighting, and very few players - so few players that I couldn't go near the portal safely for fear of getting swarmed by demons. I just tagged stuff as it got to the AD NPCs, and was done in about a minute and a half.

What level do you need to be to get the quest.
I'm lvl 45 (like 4 bars from 46) and I cant see anyone handing out a quest. I spent an hour or 2 yesterday attacking felguards (yes i got dmg in :p only 18 -22) and i healed alliance players when i could. I never got killed by a felguard. (only horde who thought they could take out the alliance... they were very wrong on that thought).
Anywho.. it think its unfair only 60s get the quest. If you can stay alive long enough you should reap the benefits of that. Shame on your blizzard. Please let me know the min level.

Dracco,
I'm a hunter and there were dozens of people AoEing the shite out of the portal but I had no problem grabbing them. Explosive Trap at the foot of the portal FTW!

I went at peak hours last night to get my tabard and came upon a huge crowd of alliance by the gate and a huge crowd of my fellow horde by the quest giver. Any attempt to tap a felguard was meet with a quick gank. Eventually someone in the crowd of horde gave the order to charge though and we laid waste to the alliance.
It took about ten minutes of AoEing the gate (I'm a mage) to get the 6 taps I needed for the quest. Lots of fun, but poorly executed by Blizzard. The lag was really bad and it was only luck that I got the quest done in about 30 minutes.

AoE storm right at the portal, tough to tag a Felguard yourself.
And being on a RP-PvP server, it's a bloodbath. The ground is just white with skellitons.

As a hunter, park your pet in the Dark Portal, set it on aggressive, and sit back and relax. I used this technique on patch night and had all 6 in roughly 10 minutes while eating Stauffer's French Bread Pizza.

What are the other events going on. I hit the pure chaos and problems not having AOE at the portal and now I wonder what else people have heard is happening?

I was a lvl 56 when I completed to get the tabard. Better get in a group for this one- took about half an hour to get 2 outside the group then it went fast with one.

RE #4 - I believe what you are forgetting is that the expansion is level 60-70 content. There is no mid-level content being added at this time. I'm sorry if you feel cheated of the world event, but in all honesty, this is for the people who have been 60 for a year and need something new to move towards as they are bored with Molten Core and Blackwing Lair.
If you want a mid-level world or seasonal event, then you should have participated in the Feast of Winter's Veil or wait for the Lunar Festival, which comes during February. If you want to take part in expansion specific content, then you should seek out the Exodar faction quests all over the world, namely Hinterlands for your current level.

Uh.
One of the links you posted (specifically this one: http://community.livejournal.com/worldofwarcraft/4849467.html - the text linking to it is "things are happening") has absolutely nothing to do with the Dark Portal event.
It's simply the result of somebody training Volchan (http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=10119), a rare-spawn elite mob in the Burning Steppes, to Stormwind.
Maybe doing some basic fact-checking before posting would help? :)

Did it last night with a small group of guildmates. We're on an Alliance-dominated PVP server so it was tough. We got the first four while Horde controlled the portal area, and then did a rez-tag demon-kill demon-die dance on the last two. The tabard is totally worth it though.

I mean no disrespect. Stop hatin.
I've only had the game for 5 wks now. I'm lvling as fast I can. But i'm all for world events only 60s can participate in. like the anh' qiraj *sp?* world event. But thats in an isolated area from my knowledge. The dark portal is open to anyone who can make it there. I just dont see how its fair to let me stand around helping others out (even though it was fun) but I cant reep the rewards. I too am playing a part by healing those who need it.
Like I said.. the only thing I died from was random bored horde that happened to see me alone while i was taking screenshots. This might be fun new content for 60s. But I am on the server. I am participating in the effort and when the darkportal opens up on the 16th I will be there with my expansion to hop in. I might only be lvl 47 at the time. But I will be there. So why cant i have a chance to get the tabard?
I cant see only lvl 60's getting BC. The new players and lower lvls want to enjoy all the new BC related stuff too. I agree there should be a limit on who can get the quest. Like lvl 35 or 40. But I stand firm on the believe a world event should be for the world to enjoy and not just lvl 60s. Its not JUST lvl 60 content its everyone content.

I had no trouble either, I just put rank 1 moonfire on my action bar (bound to the = key) and used tab to cycle trough the mobs, marking every one that I saw. Got my 6 pretty quick that way.
Luckily I'm on a PvE server, so Horde AOE wasn't an issue.

I have to say, I had a blast playing last night. On my realm, Dalvengyr, Kruul was at the entrance of Undercity where he laid waste to hundreds of players, over and over again. I was personally killed no less than 6 times (rendering my armor all red). The first few times I actually tried to help fight, until I realized Kruul was killing about 10 people at a time with one hit shots. I realized it was futile and was killed a bunch more times trying to escape to WPL to grind Argent. At one time we had somewhere around 75 people attacking him at the same time, and his damage bar never moved.. hehe After an hour or so of this, a GM came and warped him elsewhere. Everyone had a blast taking a shot at this guy, especially lower level players who have never seen a demon that was as tall as the wall around Undercity.
When I finally made it to WPL, I was greeted by a bunch of 60 Alliance hanging out, attacking people. A few calls to the Local Defense channel, and about 30 Horde players who were fighting Kruul took a ride out and we made quick work of the Alliance gankers.
As chaotic and futile as the whole Kruul thing was, I had a blast and it seemed everyone else did too. That's the kind of stuff I always hope to see in MMO's but rarely ever do. To me that was way more fun than any battleground fights, which seem too stale and contrived in my opinion. I think that's where I differ as a casual player. I really enjoy spontaneous content like this. The loot and stuff just isn't that important to me.

RE - #17
I didn't mean to offend you, I was only stating that your initial logic was flawed. TBC is level 60+ content, minimum level required is 55, so why should the world event be any different? You cannot even enter the dark portal until level 55.
I know that you did not die from the demons directly, but were you going toe-to-toe one-on-one with them? Most likely not.
I think that Blizzard was VERY kind to offer the Naxx world event to lower level players. While limited, they got 2-3 additional quests with zero rewards out of it.
The mobs coming through the portal are level 60, and Blizzard is directly in-line with this quest level to match all other quest levels. When you're level 20, you do not have access to level 40 quests, and when you're in your 40's you do not have access to the endgame 60+ quests.
Regardless, the quest is at least level 55, so you have until midnight on launch day to attain that level and do the quest, and then enter the Dark Portal. Good luck, my friend! I hope you reach your goal!
