Blades of Light! In one of the best-loved (and most traveled) instances in the game, you'll find this axe with what might be the most fun proc in the game.
Name: "The" Ravager (it's actually just Ravager, but this weapon is so cool it deserves to be singular)
Type: Rare Two-hand Axe
Damage / Speed: 104-157 / 3.50 (37.3)
Abilities:
- For the down and dirty on today's Phat Loot, we're going straight to Isobelle over at Not Addicted, who says, "Why do I have such a stiffy for this Radiant Shard in Waiting? Take a look at that proc!
Chance on hit: You attack all nearby enemies for 9 sec causing weapon damage plus an additional 5 every 3 sec.
Are you kidding me? ALL NEARBY ENEMIES? Whirlwind hits only four additional enemies, has a ten second cooldown, only works in berserker stance, and has a cost of what some might call "much rage". This thing costs zero rage, works in any stance, and will hit as many enemies as you can get into melee range before it procs." Yeah. She loves it. And we do too. - The only problem? Whenever it procs, you stand there spinning for the whole nine seconds, whether there are enemies around when you're done or not. We're talking endless entertainment here. Isobelle: "It procs All Day Long. It procs procs, which then proc a proc. We've seen it go 4 times in a row, which can be a good thing, or a bad thing. That's like 20 seconds of whirlwind vortex love (when it re-procs, the 9 second timer resets, so you don't get a full 4x9 out of it), but sometimes you want to turn it off. You can't."
- And Isobelle didn't mention it, but we will: the thing looks darn cool, too. As part of Herod's Scarlet set, it goes especially well with his helm and half-shoulder, too.
Oh, and if you haven't noticed yet, Herod yells "Blades of Light!" a lot. Isobelle recommends setting up a macro to /yell that phrase whenever this procs, and we concur.
Getting Rid of It: BOP, Disenchants into a Small Radiant Shard, sells to vendor for 1g 89s 23c.

The proc has never been a "problem" for my warrior. If I get tired of spinning I just use an ability and it interrupts the spin.
Very controllable.

Absolute best use of this:
During Halloween, turn your favorite Ravager-weilding Orc Warrior into a plagued - or whatever that was called - gnome and let the laughs begin!

This is hands down the worst item I've seen on phat loot phriday. Reason? As poster two pointed out, you used to be able to break out by using a skill. That hasn't worked in quite a while.
If you're a warrior, and want an axe, go get your Whirlwind Axe. If you've got a higher level friend who will help, have them do that. You'll have it a couple levels past 30. If you're a shaman.. well, you're kind of out of luck. Same goes for hunters.

The "Ravager" got nerfed a few patches ago... :(
It used to be able to proc agains and again when hitting multiple enemies, which means that it never stops procing.
It also used to be able to proc any paladin spells, such as seal of light, seal of wisdom and seal of command on every single enemies that Ravager's proc hits.
I never used it ever again right after it was nerfed.
It used to be the coolest thing I do in ZF temple part.
I wish blizzard could change it back, it was so fun, now it just sux like a regular blue item that you get with no stats.
Before the nerf, the proc for me was around 1 out of every 5 hits.
After the nerf, the proc was around 1 out of every 15 hits... nerfed badly.

When i used it back in the day changing stances was what i used to stop the spining, still considering the dps on the axe it didn't seem so apealing considering that by lvl30 i already got the wirlwind axe =\.

One thing is for sure...when it procs, it will keep on going forever it seems. But yeah like a previous commenter said, just use an ability and it will stop the 9 second timer. And if I remember correctly, you used to be able to switch out weapons when the proc happened...but, for obvious reasons that doesn't work anymore.
I still carry this on my 60 hunter...who said we don't have aoe.

i have to say the ravager is my favorite item even as a MT in 5 mans, it still procs off of a proc so it can happen multiple times, and as long as you got the rage a simple shout will make it stop or another ability, i've never really had a problem with stopping it, it has also gotten my group and I out of many a sticky situation from SM until ST, and i occasionally bring the bad boy out in BRD, im pretty sure i wont get away with in hire level areas but i wont ever sell it, the proc is just to much fun. [Ravager] FTW!!!

I loved this axe and used it on my paladin 'till i got the spear from AV (around 51)wasnt the main weapon at that point, but still used it a lot, specially for WSG. no matter how many times it proc'ed horde just kept comming on to me lol. i actually found the proc to be like 1 out oof 7, sometimes less.
and yes i could interrupt it with abilities, usually refreshing SoC

It's pissing me off since the last patch. It used to work in battlestance.
It's an OK axe I guess. A bit slow.
You can break out of it....click cyclone or blood rage...breaks you right out of it.

yeah, i stand corrected. it's painfully easy to stop, just hit any button.
that was changed from the first time i had one (went back and got another recently).
the porc is so touchy now that you have to be careful button mashing so that you DON'T interrupt the proc.
it's very handy in a few key areas, even at level 60 (BRD's Lyceum, etc)

It seems that with patch 2.0, this weapon is bugged. About 90% of the time, when it tries to proc, it'll immediately get interrupted for no reason. Hopefully this will be fixed soon. It was pretty confusing for me, since I just got this weapon yesterday.

Ah i remember that thing, had it on my Shaman a long time ago. Probably the most fun weapon I owned, although it did piss off the occasional mage as I ploughed through their sheep (and anything else that got too close!)

I love this axe oh so much. I used it on my shaman, and even made a macro to yell out "BLADES OF LIGHT!" whenever I got the proc. I even used it when I switched over to elemental gear, and even when I was the healer of the group. Anyone who thinks this does not deserve to belong on Phat Loot sucks.
