Grimmus on LJ points to this forum thread, and introduces me to a fad in the game that I have never heard about before: corpse graffiti. It's the art of leaving corpses (usually of the opposite faction if you're in a faction specific place like Orgrimmar) with meaningful names in strange places. It's fascinating to me that people came up with this idea, and it's genius at the same time. "Nerfmurlocs" in a murloc spawn area, "Nerffire" on top of a torch in a city, "Welcomemat" outside of a city, a female orc named "Mankirkswife" in the Barrens. The thread's got lots of great ones in it-- one guy says he even placed corpses of all the main characters from Lord of the Rings in Ironfroge.Do people actually do this? Just to check, I logged into my server and looked around the front areas of Org, SW, and IF, but couldn't find any interesting corpses. A Google search of corpse grafitti turns up nothing, and there are no screenshots at all in the thread-- you'd think people who made works of art like this would try to capture their genius. And while we're at it, exactly how long do corpses of logged out players stick around, anyway? I know it's more than a day, but I think it's less then a week, so this is a pretty temporary artform.
Still, theoretical or not, I think it's a great idea, and I'd love to see it in practice sometime. In fact, maybe I'll log in right now, and place a corpse somewhere in the jungles in Stranglethorn Vale for you to find on your travels. The name? It'll be "Drlivingstone," I presume.

I've seen it happen from time to time. There's a video or two on Youtube (my favorite, a huge running of the Tauren into IF, and when they reach the area in front of the bank, they all rez and die again in the shape of their guild name (TFO).
Most of what I've seen is either "Welcomemat" "Yougotmail", or variations. Once in a while a few people bring in several alts that spell out a sentence bashing some other person.

On my server Eldre'Thalas there was recently a series of bodies left in front of the auction house who's names formed a sentence insulting a particular player on the server.

it used to be really popular when the bodies didn't disapear but then people started abusing it and covering the ground with bodies and blizzard changed the duration that a body will stay on the ground for

The most creative, if disturbing, one I've seen was a naked troll and 3 gnomes inside the IF bank.
The naked troll was curled around the 3 gnomes.
The gnomes names were irrelevant (bobby, timmy, etc)
The Troll was named Wackojacko.

For the longest time there was a naked pink haired gnome named "iwuvyou" in front of Thrall. I've seen a ton of "hordesucks" and stuff like that. I started to do this one time, but I don't remember if I ever actually did it.

This is great stuff!
Got so inspired, I promptly created "Mankrikswife" and stood next to Mankrik in XR for a little bit. Several people tried clicking on me. Every once in a while I would wave at someone. Guess you would have to be there, but it was hilarious! Then took her just south of XR, right outside the gates, and died there.
Also made a Tauren "Cowsdontfly" and jumped off TB, landing right by the elevator.

My winning corpse was a Tauren body at the bottom of Thunder Bluff named "Basejumper." Looks like he forgot his parachute.

Someone keeps leaving a human male corpse in front of the Ogrimmar bank. Name: "Bobsagit", sometimes accompanied by a second male human corpse, "Hardgay".

Suddenly I'm reminded of the contest server, back to get the beta keys and whatnot. Me and my friend would go out questing to get our 50s, and everytime my itunes played "Eye of the tiger" we would see a cropse with the name "Apollo" on it, making reference to the rocky movie.
We found it moderately entertaining the first time, but when we saw it 2 or 3 more times we were just ROFLing (and yes, each time with "Eye of the Tiger" playing, and no it wasn't just an endless loop of that song, it was my whole library).
