Your gear starting to smell from overuse? Your weapons rusting up because you can't afford new ones? Your mount looking a little rickety (or nonexistent because you haven't seen 100g yet)? Worry not! We're here to help. Here's five easy (and TOS-compliant) ways to rake in the moolah.1. Get some greedy professions. If I could tell people two things about professions, I would say: always take First Aid asap, and, if you want to make money, get herbalism and skinning. Those two, skinning especially, are your best bet at making tons of cash on the Auction House. Leather is used by almost all the professions (not just leather workers), and as any alchemist will tell you, even though Silverleaf literally grows on trees, there's never enough of it around to make the potions you need. Some people will say enchanting or mining, but for the first, I'd rather auction my green items off seperately, and in the second case, well, maybe that's just my personal taste. Mining seems to sell well on the AH, too. And speaking of the AH,
2. Get real familiar with the Auction House. Don't ever sell anything to a vendor unless you really, really need the space in your bags, because even stuff that seems worthless to you can usually find a buyer on the AH. Twinkers are looking for good low level items all the time, and even fish scales are used by Shamans as reagents. If you're serious about making gold, you've probably already done this by now, but make yourself a level one alt, get him or her to a city with an auction house, and park them there, then mail things to them from your other characters. One more note about the Auction House...
3. Get Auctioneer. This is a no brainer-- if you haven't heard of this wonderful addon yet, then it's no wonder you don't have your mount. Once you've installed it, run to the nearest AH, let it do a scan, and boom, you've got all the AH prices cached on your computer. Then, when you're out in the world, you've got exactly what every single item in the game should sell for. Plus, when you have things to sell, Auctioneer will tell you the best price to put your items at so they'll sell and you'll make money. Usually, you can sell a little higher than the price Auctioneer puts your items at (especially in the high levels, this can squeeze you a few more gold), but there's nothing easier than just throwing all your extra stuff on the AH, and letting Auctioneer set them up for you. And having Auctioneer around will help you...
4. Look for deals everywhere. Don't ninja anything, but there's no shame in casually announcing, as your party makes their way to SM, that you're saving for your mount, and so you'll be rolling on everything that no one needs. When you get quest rewards, most of that stuff is soulbound, so if you're offered a choice of two things you can't use as a reward, always take the most expensive item. And watch vendor prices, too-- every once in a while, Traveling Salesman Antonio Perelli (or any of the other NPC vendors) will be selling a potion that's selling for a few gold more on the AH.
5. Play! Finally, the best way to conjure up more gold also happens to be the best way to conjure up experience-- get out there and kill stuff. Any looting at all is better than standing around Orgimmar telling Chuck Norris jokes. Of course, you should choose where you're killing stuff, too. If you're just grinding for XP, pick humanoid mobs-- they drop much more money, and usually better items. And if you can get a group together, an instance run is (literally) a goldmine for hard-to-find items.
But above all, the best way to make a lot of gold quickly is just to have fun playing the game. Do what you want, enjoy it, and before you'll know it, you'll have the epic mount you so desperately desire. Just in time to start saving for flying mounts...

Dunno if I should give away my secrets but here goes:
Alchemy: 2 potions will provide you with a relatively hassle-free fortune.
1. Swiftness potions: On Bloodhoof EU these sell for 50s - 75s per potion!! That means a pack of 5 will get you between 2½g - 4.25g!! Why? Cos anyone who wants to get out of trouble fast needs Swiftness potions - it gives you 50% extra speed for 15s but with only a 2 minute cooldown (unlike Dash which is 5 mins).
The hard bit is getting the recipe but just make sure you trawl AH regularly and have about 5g - 10g on you and someone will make a mistake and undersell this recipe. Believe me. it pays for itself very quickly - why? The ingredients are the easiest to come by for any character of 15th level or higher. It needs Briarthorn and Swifthistle and a leaded vial. Briarthorn is found in areas of 10th - 20th level and swifthistle is found with Briarthorn or Mageroyal (again found in 10th lvl + areas.
2. Frost Oil (Apply to ur weapon and on hit it has chance of doing a frost bolt and lasts 30mins and has a cool visual effect - glowing blue).
This one sells for between 75s and 1g EACH!
Hard thing about this is that you really need to be around 35th level to get the recipe and find ingredients.
Despite Allakhazam giving the recipe the green colour code meaning a world drop, it isn't. There's a goblin on the North Wall of the ruins in Alterac where the Crushridge Warmongers are - he sells the recipe. If you have a feral druid or rogue you can sneak past all the mobs to buy this. He prolly won't have it in his inventory (which puts alot of ppl off cos they think someone has just bought it and it won't spawn soon) but just hang around for about 10 mins and keep checking his inventory regularly to see whether its there. You MUST check or it will spawn and then de-spawn after a time (so I hear).
Ingredients are Winterbite and Khadgars Whisker. Easy enough to come by but you need to be around 35th level. Wintersbite is only available in snowy mountain places like Alterac but Khadgars can be found in Badlands and Swamp of sorrows quite easily.
Prolly shot myself in the foot now cos loadsa ppl will prolly be selling these pots after my sage advice. :(

Forget actually using Swiftthistle in a potion - sell that leaf all by itself! Any rogue who isn't an herbalist will be snatching it up in a heartbeat. I've seen INDIVIDUAL LEAFS sell for 50-75s. I came across a gift of gold from a friend leaving the game, and quickly spent it mostly on Swiftthistle - now I have a stock of 20 thistle tea that sit in my bank until I run instances...they're an amazing asset when downing a boss.
My biggest tip - that I never follow and hence am always broke - don't take professions that you can use and expect to make money! I'm a squishy warlock - with tailoring, first aid and enchanting. So I'm using almost every piece of cloth I get either for clothes or bandaids - and all those greens/blues I can't use get turned into enchants to buff me up...missing out on quite a bit of gold (though I did get smart when I ended up with a blue drop worth 40g...I sold that one on the AH!).

Auctioneer has a command that lets you scan for items that are priced below the average AH sale price and have short duration left on the auction. A lot of times, I find the best values are in auctions for commodity items with very low minimums and no bids (e.g. a stack of wool cloth or firefin snapper or something). Buy them up during server off-peak times and resell them later at market average prices. It isn't as fun as running an instance, but it is a pretty time efficient way to make some gold. I have an alt that just camps in the AH and does nothing but arbitrage and auctions off stuff from my other characters.

If you do decide to have an auction mule, spend the time to level it up to 5 and then teach it enchanting. This is useful if you have a green item or better that for whatever reason just isn't selling at the AH. Then all you have to do is disenchant it, collect the constituents and put those on AH - you'll probably get a better price that what you might if you sold it to a vendor.
I'm a casual gamer - I just started playing this past June - and I have three alts (a 32 pallly, a 28 hunter and a 13 rogue) that feed my auction mule. She gets all trade items and green or better items. Within a couple of months of 2 or 3 hours 3 or 4 times a week my auction mule has well over 100g in surplus and this is after paying for upgrades to all my alts professions, skills, random spending money and whatever else they need.
I also have to echo that Auctionneer is great!!!
One side benefit of having many alts that are around the same level is they help each other out with upgrades and supplies. My alchemist passes potions around, my leather worker passes armour kits around, and my engineer... well he hasn't had much to pass around yet, but here's hoping...

Best bit of advice is, if you're starting a new toon on a new server and have no rich lvl 70 main to fund it, always always go with two gathering professions, avoid crafting professions like the plague. Crafting professions eat up mat drops and gold like crazy, almost guaranteeing you'll still be poor at 40. The only possible exception is the Herbalism/Alchemy combo, where Alchemy is immediately useful to you, or you can sell your pots on AH. It's not as lucrative as Herb/Skin though, but it's usefulness, esp on PvP servers, is worth consideration.
As the author said, always take Skinning. You're killing and looting things anyway, may as well skin them too. Quick and easy way to get extra, valuable loot. Between Herb and Mining, I find Mining makes a bit more money since ore is more in demand - Blacksmiths, Engineers, and now Jewelcrafters all need it, as opposed to (just?) Alchemists for herbs. But I prefer Herbalism b/c you can gather stuff faster with less quest interuption, and it levels faster. Gathering herb nodes consists of shift-clicking the node once, waiting a few seconds, leveling your skill, then you're on your way again. Mining consists of shift-clicking the node 3 or 4 times, but leveling the skill only once for all that work, and taking 3-4 times the amount of time to mine that node. But whichever you pick, herb/skin or mine/skin, both make a lot of money, you can't really go wrong.

The most easiest way to make gold on a level 40+ character is the deadmines! Run in here on a solo run and loot EVERYTHING YOU KILL!!! Make sure that you have alot of extra bag space, and just in case a couple of health pots. When you loot items they will always be worth somthing. On average the money drop rate per mob is about 40Copper-60Copper so with all those mobs you strike up about 90Silver alone. Now the drops, all the grey and white items are pretty much default sold to the vendor, UNLESS auctioneer tells you not to... make sure to look over all of your white items for profit in the AH first, example my level 8 leather armour was just taking up space and I was going to sell it, but look... 3 gold for this heap of junk!? well okay than! The rare drops you get from bosses in the deadmines (Considering they don't bind to you when you pick them up) will sell for profit very well on the AH. The second last deadmines tip is, linen cloth! OMG I cannot believe how many people just either DROP or practically GIVE AWAY their linen cloth! These are a gold mine all in themselves! With an average rate of about 360 linen cloth in a deadmines run looting everything you kill, will get you 15 gold and 12 silver!! This is at a 4.2 silver per linen cloth which is average! Most people believe that linen cloth are only worth 1S per stack, BULL! My level 18 Night Elf Rogue is RICH off of this method alone! Me and my dad (lol plz don't flam me for that ;) get together with a higher level friend, and go into deadmines with free for all loot, splitting profits at the end we get about 25-40 Gold a run, this varies because of rare drops. All the uncommon items we get that are-AH profit
